This Privacy Policy describes how Synthilab OÜ ("we", "us", or "our") handles, processes, and safeguards your personal data in connection with our on-device voice-to-text application ("Freeway"). Freeway performs all speech recognition locally on your device without transmitting audio to external servers.
By using Freeway, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy rights and complying with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and other relevant privacy legislation.
Scope of this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies only to Freeway. It does not cover any third-party Plugins, Pipelines, extensions, websites, or services that may be installed into, linked to, integrated with, or otherwise accessed through Freeway. Third-party components you add to Freeway may have their own data collection and processing practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party Plugins or Pipelines before installing or using them.
Our Core Privacy Principle
Your voice data never leaves your Mac. Not a single byte. Freeway processes all speech recognition entirely on your device using local neural engines. There are no cloud uploads, no server processing, and no external data transfers of your voice or transcribed text.
What We Don't Collect
In the App, Freeway does NOT collect, store, or transmit:
- Your voice recordings
- Your transcribed text
- Your personal information as part of dictation
- Any content you create using the App
Because your dictated content is not uploaded, it cannot be intercepted in transit, retained by us, sold, or exposed through a server breach.
Note: This section is about the App's voice-to-text processing. If you contact us through the website or use third-party services linked from the website, those interactions may involve information you choose to provide (see below).
Data Processing Guarantees
We want to be transparent about how we handle your data. These are our default product guarantees for the App:
- On-device processing: Your voice and dictated text are processed locally on your Mac.
- No content uploads: We do not upload your voice recordings or transcribed text to our servers for processing.
- No training on your content: Your voice and dictated text are not used to train AI or machine-learning models.
- No server retention of dictated content: Because dictated content is not uploaded, we do not retain your voice or transcribed text on our servers.
If we ever introduce optional cloud features in the future, they will be clearly disclosed and offered on an opt-in basis, with updated documentation and this policy revised accordingly.
Anonymous Analytics
The Freeway app may send minimal, anonymous analytics data to help us improve the application. This includes:
- App version number (to check for updates)
- Operating system version
- General hardware type (e.g., Apple Silicon or Intel)
This data is completely anonymous, contains no personal identifiers, and is used solely to understand compatibility requirements and prioritize development efforts. No user content, voice data, or personal information is ever included.
Information You Provide to Us (Website & Support)
When you choose to contact us, we process the information you submit so we can respond and provide support. This may include:
- Your name (if provided)
- Your email address or other contact details
- The contents of your message and any information you include
Our contact page uses a third-party form provider (Tally). When you submit a form, the provider may process your submission on our behalf. Please avoid including sensitive information in your message unless necessary.
Website Analytics
Our website at tryfreeway.com uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our site. Google Analytics collects information such as:
- Pages visited
- Time spent on pages
- Referring websites
- Browser and device information
- Geographic region (country/city level)
This information helps us improve our website and understand our audience. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
For more information about how Google processes this data, please see Google's Privacy Policy.
If you prefer, you can also limit or clear cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect parts of the site that rely on embedded services.
Open-Source Technology
Freeway is built using open-source libraries and models, including NVIDIA Parakeet for speech recognition. All processing happens locally on your device. We do not use any proprietary cloud services for voice processing.
Data Security
We take security seriously and design Freeway to minimize data exposure. Because the App processes dictation locally on your Mac, there is no routine transmission of your voice recordings or dictated text to our servers.
However, security also depends on your device. If your Mac is compromised, local files and on-screen content may be accessible to an attacker. We recommend:
- Keeping macOS up to date
- Using a strong device password and enabling Touch ID if available
- Turning on FileVault disk encryption
- Only installing apps from trusted sources
When the App or website communicates over the network (for example, update checks, website analytics, or contact form submissions), those requests are intended to be protected using industry-standard transport security (TLS) and access controls appropriate for the data involved.
GDPR (EEA/UK Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, the GDPR/UK GDPR may apply to some of the information processed through our website (for example, cookie-based analytics) or when you contact us.
Legal bases (where applicable): We process website analytics to understand and improve the site, and we process contact submissions to respond to you and provide support. Depending on the context, the legal basis may be consent (for certain cookies/analytics) or our legitimate interests / performance of a contract (for responding to requests).
Your rights may include the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and the right to object to certain processing. You may also have the right to data portability and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Complaints: If you believe your rights have been violated, you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
CCPA / CPRA (California Users)
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA may provide you with specific rights regarding personal information collected through our website or when you contact us.
Categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers (such as online identifiers/cookie IDs), internet or network activity information (such as pages visited), and information you submit via our contact form.
Purposes include operating and improving the website, understanding site performance, and responding to inquiries.
No sale of personal information: We do not sell your personal information as that term is defined under the CCPA/CPRA. We also do not use your dictated voice or transcribed text for advertising.
Your rights may include the right to know/access, delete, correct, and limit the use of sensitive personal information (where applicable), as well as the right to opt out of certain sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. You also have the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
Children's Privacy
Freeway does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The App is safe for users of all ages as no data is transmitted from the application.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
